The Undertaker is a veteran of professional wrestling who has been in the industry for over three decades. The 59-year-old came up in a much different environment than today and often has controversial views about the state of the business today. He has criticized the locker room attitude amongst wrestlers in the past. A few years ago, he also faced backlash for calling today’s product “soft” in an interview with Joe Rogan in 2021.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Six Feet Under, the Deadman responded to the criticism he had faced for this remark. He claimed that modern wrestlers and wrestling fans often misconstrued opinions as personal attacks. However, he did admit that calling today’s product soft was not the right choice of words.

In 2021, The Phenom was just coming out of his shell after retiring from professional wrestling. During this time, he started breaking character, which he never did previously, and began doing more interviews and public appearances.

What killed me, though, was all the passive-aggressive tweets that I got from wrestlers. I’m like, you got to be kidding me. Man, you need to get off of Twitter and figure out why you’re not drawing anything.

The former WWE Champion had underestimated the reach of Joe Rogan‘s podcast and the effects that these words would have. He even revealed getting a lot of passive-aggressive tweets after the podcast from other wrestlers. He told them to get off social media, and focus on their careers instead.

A few years after his retirement, the 5x WrestleMania main-eventer has become much more comfortable with his media appearances. He has his own podcast now and even does high-profile interviews such as inviting Donald Trump to speak with him about WWE and the presidential elections.

Which superstars responded to The Undertaker’s comments about the modern product being ‘soft’?

While there is no discernible way to know who personally messaged The Undertaker about his comments, many superstars did respond to these remarks in public. Matt Riddle completely refuted the claim and said that modern WWE superstars were savages.

Miro also responded by saying that playing video games did not make one soft. A lot of talent backstage simply used it as a hobby to relax. The Bulgarian said that earlier in his career, the locker room was filled with men roughing each other up, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and even shooting up heroin. However, things were much different now.

Drew McIntyre disagreed as well, claiming that the modern in-ring product was definitely not soft as compared to before. Another old-timer like the Demon from Death Valley, Edge, said that anyone who puts their bodies on the line to entertain fans is tough, no matter what. Furthermore, the younger generation had more challenges to deal with due to the internet and social media.
