The Undertaker is one of the most legendary figures in sports entertainment. There has never been a time when fans were not invested in the storylines and matches he was involved in. However, if there was one match he would like to forget, it was with Goldberg at WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia in 2019. The Deadman shared why that match just didn’t live up to the expectations of fans.
While speaking with Logan Paul on his Impaulsive podcast, The Undertaker opened up about his match with Goldberg. The match was filled with dangerous botches that could have ended badly for either of them. The Undertaker stated that there was a time when he didn’t have it in him physically to make it all work.
Taker further added that the match felt like a huge mess, especially after Goldberg got concussed early on. Not only that, he attempted a Jackhammer, during which The Deadman literally landed on his head. The 54-year-old legend ended up winning the match, but the sheer disappointment was clearly visible on his face.
The match I had with Goldberg in Saudi Arabia. You know, there was never a time in my career where I feel like no matter what happened, that I could figure out a way to make it all work and have a decent match. He got concussed early on and it was just like a train wreck. The Undertaker via The Impaulsive podcast
His last match was a cinematic Boneyard match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. However, his last appearance came at WrestleMania XL, where he helped Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns to win the world title. Although fans all around the world wish that Taker could fight forever, after his match against the Phenomenal One, he knew it was over.
The Undertaker confirms his wrestling career is over
The Undertaker was one of the most unique characters in professional wrestling. Unfortunately, he bid adieu to WWE after his last match against Styles in 2020. He has remained retired ever since and has not wrestled any matches thereafter. Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the WWE Hall of Famer confirmed his status and admitted that he would never wrestle again.
The Phenom went on to say that his body doesn’t allow him to do any such activities. He didn’t discard the fact that he couldn’t wrestle. However, if he does, he won’t be able to deliver to modern standards. As such, he strongly believes that he will never come out of retirement to have one more match.
But after I did it I came back and I was like, 'I'm good now. I don't need to do this again.' I'm not saying that I wouldn't if they needed something like that again, but I'm not gonna have a match or I'm not coming out of retirementThe Undertaker via the Insight
That doesn’t mean the Phenom is completely gone from WWE. Taker said that he is open for some appearances, as he did at WrestleMania XL, expressing that he enjoyed the moment. Therefore, there is always a chance for a one-off appearance. With that said it will be interesting to see when and where the fans will witness the wrath of the Deadman once again in WWE.
