“There were people who were not supposed to be there,” Ravi Shastri makes shocking revelation about BCCI selection meetings

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has made a shocking revelation about the selection meetings held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shastri has revealed that while he stayed away from sitting in those meetings, he knew that a few people who were not supposed to be there, sat in the selection meetings. Ravi Shastri also shared his views on if head coaches should be a part of selection meetings or not.

The former head coach opined that although he believed that making coaches sit in a selection meeting will make players conscious as they may have reservations about opening up, making coaches sit in such meetings can be considered in the long run. While sharing his experience and views, the former India head coach dropped a bomb about BCCI selection meetings.

While talking to ESPNCricinfo, when he asked about insights into the selection meetings, he said, “I have zero first-hand experience. In the seven years, I was part of the team, I never went near a selection meeting. I wasn’t invited either.”

“I think, in the long run, yes. As a coach, you spend a lot of time with the boys, it’s important; not in the voting capacity, but at least to hear what’s the selectors are thinking, what’s their train of thought. And then, to decide what the right thing for the side,” said the former head coach about including coaches in selection meetings.

“I have zero idea how it starts, and how it finishes, and who are there in the meeting. From what I gather, there were a lot of people over the last 3-4 years inside the selection meetings, who were not supposed to be there. It’s against the constitution,” Shastri further said.

After making this bombshell of a revelation, Ravi Shastri also shed light on what he thinks about having separate coaches for different formats. Shastri said that it can be a good option considering the volume of cricket these days. “With the amount of cricket being played, the amount of travel, it can be a case where you have different captains, different teams, and things like that,” opined Shastri.
