“There’s plenty of racism that needs to be exposed” Brian Flores files a lawsuit against the NFL for discrimination
Brian Flores
Brian Flores has had major success in his NFL career to this point. First as the defensive coordinator of the Patriots and then as the head coach of the Dolphins. Despite the team’s poor record, they would’ve done far worse if they hadn’t had Flores for the past 3 seasons.
Earlier this year Flores was fired by the Dolphins in a very controversial move by the organization. While the Dolphins have stated that dynamics related to the football organization are the reason Flores was fired, recent news about the former head coach may have people questioning the Dolphins’ true intentions.
Brian Flores accuses NFL along with multiple teams of systemic racism
In a press release from Flores’ law firm, he’s quoted saying “God has gifted me with a special talent to coach the game of football, but the need for change is bigger than my personal goals.”
He further added “In making the decision to file the class action complaint today, I understand that I may be risking coaching the game that I love and that has done so much for my family and me. My sincere hope is that by standing up against systemic racism in the NFL, others will join me to ensure that positive change is made for generations to come.”
Flores reportedly has texts from Patriots head coach Bill Belichick as evidence in the suit as well as pointing out that Eric Bienemy hasn’t been given an opportunity for a head coaching interview. He also references his interview with the Broncos in 2019 where he was only given the interview because they had to do so and had no intention of hiring him.
Brian Flores clearly understands the risk he’s taking from a football perspective as it’s likely that carrying out this lawsuit will prevent any team from hiring him at all. As someone who has had previous success and was potentially lined up for even more success, it’s a massive statement but something he feels needs to be done.
