Perez spoke about Ceferin’s threats in an interview with El Chiringuito on Monday, saying: “Every player can be calm because that’s not going to happen. They won’t be banned if they join the Super League.”

There have been suggestions from the UEFA that 3 of the 4 semi-finalists of this season’s Champions League – Manchester City, Madrid and Chelsea will be kicked out of the tournament effective immediately.

The newly elected Madrid president has dismissed those threats too –  “Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea will not be banned from the Champions League or domestic leagues. Impossible, I can assure you of that. 100 per cent, it won’t happen, the law protects us. This is impossible.”

Aleksander Ceferin, the European body’s President had earlier launched an attack on Manchester United’s Ed Woodward and Juventus’ Andrea Agnelli because of their allegiances with the Super League. Perez stood in support of his fellow clubs’ presidents and claimed more transparency on the European authorities’ part.

Perez argued – “Why aren’t UEFA and La Liga salaries public? Why haven’t salaries been reduced like everyone else during the pandemic? We need more transparency. We know the salary of LeBron James but we don’t know the salary of the UEFA president.”
