Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara surprisingly departed Barcelona, a month after assuming a coaching position at the club. The 33-year-old recently transitioned into management after retiring from playing.
Thiago Alcantara retired at the end of the previous season, owing to persistent injuries. The exceptional midfielder faced fitness issues at Anfield, missing over 600 days of play since his transfer from Bayern. Following his retirement, the Spaniard took a short-term coaching position with Barcelona under Hansi Flick. His strong links to the club and its La Masia academy made him a valuable asset for the new German manager.
However, the 33-year-old Spanish former midfielder’s brief coaching stint has ended abruptly. Initially set to last around three months, Alcantara’s role was cut short to just a few weeks. He stepped up for the short-term role to assist the German settle in Catalonia in terms of helping him settle with Spanish football and language. The Catalan club shared the information of Alcantara’s departure through their official website.

Reports indicate that the former midfielder may take a break from football following his brief but successful stint behind the scenes at Camp Nou. Meanwhile, Barcelona will begin their La Liga 2024-25 season with a match against Valencia.
Barcelona youth coach replaces Thiago Alcantara in Hansi Flick’s backroom staff
Barcelona recently announced an unexpected managerial shift. Arnau Blanco has replaced former Reds midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who had recently joined the backroom staff as an assistant to manager Hansi Flick.
Helping Flick and Co. through their pre-season, Alcantara will now be replaced by Barcelona youth coach Arnau Blanco. The Catalan-born Blanco, who has significant coaching experience with the Cadete A, Under-16 teams, and the youth academy, takes over just before the new season kicks off this weekend.
It will be interesting to see how the club performs under newly appointed manager Flick. The club has also reiterated its dedication to the professional development of its coaches.
