It’s not uncommon for players to lose their cool in a defeat, but the opposite happened at Mile High on Sunday. Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix got into a heated argument with head coach Sean Payton despite a massive lead in the game.
They managed to shake off an early scare from the Las Vegas Raiders, who scored the game’s first touchdown through Brock Bowers and increased it through a Daniel Carlson 41-yard field goal. Wil Lutz gave Broncos fans something to cheer about with two field goals, either side of a pick-6 from Patrick Surtain.
It gave the Broncos a slender lead at halftime. Things did not improve after the break offensively for either side. The frustration perhaps got the better of Bo Nix because he was seen arguing with Sean Payton on the sidelines.

Whatever they discussed worked like a charm because right after the argument, Nix threw the Broncos’ first touchdown by finding Jaleel McLaughlin a 4-yard run. The rookie quarterback further increased the lead by walking in from first & goal early in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders pulled one back near the end through Ameer Abdullah, but the game was already in the Broncos’ bag. Just four minutes earlier, Nix connected with an accurate floater to Josh Reynolds inside the Raiders endzone from first & goal.

It ended 18-34 for Payton’s side. They are now 3-2 and only trail the Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) in the AFC West.
Sean Payton clarifies his sideline spout with Bo Nix
It was a successful outing for the young quarterback, who finished with 19 of 27 for 206 passing yards and 2 touchdowns (124.9 quarterback rating). Nix also ran the ball eight times for one rushing touchdown.
After the game, reporters were curious to hear from Payton about his sideline argument with Bo Nix. The veteran had a very cheeky explanation, which killed two birds with one stone.

Nix is far from a finished product, but he has shown level-headedness when battling adversity. After five weeks of football, the 24-year-old has 866 passing yards and three touchdowns, also picking up 119 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
The Broncos stay in Denver for their week six game. They will welcome another divisional rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.
