Thomas Tuchel claims Chelsea are ‘true contenders’ for the Champions league
Chelsea cruised into the quarter finals of the Champions league defeating a strong Atletico outfit 3-0 across both legs. They won 1-0 at their designated away game last month and finished the job at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Tuchel’s Chelsea played a perfect game from start to finish and did not allow Atletico any way back into the fixture. They scored in the 34th minute from a quick counter involving all of Tuchel’s frontline players in Werner, Havertz and Ziyech.
This will be Chelsea’s first quarter final appearance since 2014
This is Chelsea’s first Champions quarter final since 2014 and Thomas Tuchel maintained his unbeaten record as a Chelsea manager. Tuchel is yet to concede a goal at home after taking over the reigns from Frank Lampard in December.
Tuchel insisted Chelsea must fear no one in the competition – and hailed his squad’s bristling spirit as crucial to their continued European chances.
“The most important is that we feel we deserve this,” the Chelsea boss said. “The most important is that we give the feedback for the guys what they did here in terms of quality and intensity.
“It’s most important you feel it and that no one has to convince you. You need to feel it. They play with a special bond and performances and results like this give you a certain edge and glue to achieve special things. You can only achieve this through results and experiences.“
Tuchel also warned other European teams to not take them lightly and said they are a team to be feared. Tuchel has found a formula to inculcate all 3 of Werner, Havertz and Ziyech in the starting lineup and the move is paying dividends.
“I’m pretty sure no one wants to play against us. It’s a super-difficult challenge ahead because we are already in the last eight. It’s a big step, but no need to be afraid, we take what we get and prepare as best as possible.”
