Thomas Tuchel urges Chelsea fans to respect Porto and not take them lightly in the quarterfinals

Chelsea have been drawn against Portuguese side FC Porto for the quarter finals in the UEFA Champions League this season. Porto managed to defeat a well drilled Juventus side in the round of sixteen. This is the first time that Chelsea have progressed through to the quarter finals since 2014. They have won their last seven of eight quarter final appearances.

‘We must respect the opponent’: Thomas Tuchel

It’s ho doubt that Chelsea have the relatively easy fixture in the quarterfinals with Manchester City and Liverpool getting Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid respectively amongst English sides.

However one must keep in mind that this is a Porto side which has successfully managed to defeat Juventus and it would be foolish for Thomas Tuchel and his men to take them lightly. Anything can happen in the champions league and previous fixtures are a testimony to this fact.

But it’s also true that Chelsea have managed to evade the two heavyweights this season- Manchester City and Bayern Munich and won’t have to face them in the semi finals should they progress. Liverpool or Real Madrid await the London giant’s who are currently flying under Thomas Tuchel.

First of all I am happy we play an international game and not against an English team, the Champions League is about that.
We have the second leg at home which feels good because we maybe have a slight advantage to finish at home.

Clearly, many people will now make us favourites against Porto but that will not help us. You can ask in Turin if that helps you.
We are self-confident and that is strongly connected with our performances. So we are confident that we will face a strong opponent and face them with respect, but we are in the quarter-final and are focused on winning that.
