Thomas Tuchel has been confirmed as the new successor of Gareth Southgate and interim football manager for England, Lee Carsley. He will be starting his role for the Three Lions in January after being signed for an 18-month indenture. In recent times when rumors materialized of Tuchel possibly joining Manchester United, the entire affair of England being in talks with him was kept extremely well under the wraps.

Thomas Tuchel became the third foreigner to take over the reins of England after the likes of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. The deal will propel Tuchel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup where he will have to play a central role in defining the team’s aspirations. However, the appointment of a foreigner as the head coach of the side didn’t really sit well with the fans.

They questioned about the fact that why could the Three Lions not look for someone within England to take over the reins. However, the German preceptor had a tongue-in-cheek response ready for the ones bothered about his nationality.

I’m sorry, I have a German passport. Everyone has their opinion and I can understand when someone says: ‘I would fancy an English coach for an English team’. All of those supporters maybe felt my passion for the English Premier League and the country and how I love to live and work here. I think we deserve a fair chance and the credit for having a good record in the country and never being shy of how much we love the country and love working with the players in the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel said in the press-conference where he was announced as the England manager

Thomas Tuchel had good support from all quarters with his appointment as the England coach. Everton manager, Sean Dyche said that nationalities of the managers hardly matter as it’s the caliber of the individual that sets aside the differences. Harry Kane who worked with Tuchel at Bayern Munich was also delighted with the move as he made it very clear that he is looking forward to working with the former Chelsea manager once again.

Recently, Lee Carsley faced a lot of backlash about not willing to sing the English national anthem with the team. When asked in the press conference about the same question, Tuchel very jokingly pointed out that he is still to come to a decision.

England will be playing out the remainder of their Nation’s League fixtures against Greece and Ireland which are slated to be played on 15th November and 17th November. They are currently second in the League B Group 2 with three wins from four games while Greece sits comfortably at the top.

Gareth Southgate stepped down after England suffered a defeat at the hands of Spain in the final of the Euro 2024. Since then, under the chaperonage of Carsley, England had mixed results with victories against Ireland and Finland. However, a defeat against Greece in the Nations League clash once again underlined how the Three Lions were desperate to get their full-time manager in place.
