On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors played against the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. Going into this game, the Warriors had a (1-0) edge after their star man Stephen Curry’s heroics in Game 1 at the Toyota Center. However, Game 2 was nothing similar. One could call it ‘dirty’ after witnessing the likes of Draymond Green and Amen Thompson‘s plays during the game.

Warriors star Jimmy Butler had to leave the court mid-game due to a serious back injury. How did this happen? In a viral video released on social media, Thompson and Green can be spotted tussling their way towards the basket. However, Butler, who reached there first, received a harsh push by Thompson, with the Warriors star landing on his back.

By the looks of it, initially, it looked as if Green pushed Thompson towards Butler, causing all this mess. However, that was not the case. Fans have began raging at Amen Thompson for his ‘dirty play’ mostly because the star pushed himself towards Butler on purpose, as spotted in the video.

He appeared to wince in agony as he lay on the court, clutching his tailbone. Thompson also took a strong knock to the ground. As he made his way to the locker room, Butler hobbled off the court and seemed to be hurting his lower back. Following Butler’s visit to the locker room for more assessment, Jonathan Kuminga checked into the game.

Per reports, Butler was ruled out of the game due to a pelvic contusion. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Butler will have an MRI on Thursday. This season, he is not the only Warriors player to cope with a pelvic contusion; Jonathan Kuminga missed one game and Stephen Curry missed two due to the same injury.

Fans left furious with Amen Thompson’s stunt on Jimmy Butler in Game 2

Jimmy Butler played just 8 minutes before he was injured by Rockets star Amen Thompson. It’s important to note that Butler played a crucial role in Game 1 of this series alongside Curry but missed the entirety of this matchup. In addition, Amen Thompson’s purposeful fouling of Butler during the game did not sit well with the NBA community.

Many fans took to various social media apps and sites to put forward their views on Thompson’s wild move on Butler. Some fans went to the extent of stating that the Rockets’ youngster should be fined/suspended by the NBA. One fan wrote on X, “Dirty and disgusting and whatever you wanna call it.” Check out some of the reactions below:

Furthermore, Butler’s absence on the court immediately jeopardized the Warriors’ attack. Without Butler, the Warriors fell short in scoring baskets. Furthermore, by the looks of it, the Rockets are looking to level this series on home court going into the Chase Center for Game 3.

NBA reporter comes in Amen Thompson’s defence of his foul on Jimmy Butler

The Amen Thompson-Jimmy Butler foul has been making headlines in and around the NBA community. While many have blamed Thompson for Butler’s foul, some have opposed it. Notably, NBA reporter Sam Vecenie chimed in on this matter, showing support for the Rockets star. Vecenie claimed that Thompson did not foul Butler on purpose.

Nobody needs to pretend like that was a dirty play from Amen Thompson that resulted in the Butler injury. Was just trying to knife through for an OReb and got his feet tied up with Draymond who was trying to get a body on him. Terrible luck, hope Jimmy gets back for Game 3.

In the Warriors’ victory in Game 1, Butler was outstanding. Since they made the trade for him, the Warriors have a 23-7 record. In addition to being a vital component of a formidable defense, he has provided them with a backup offensive creator to relieve the load on Steph Curry. As such, the Rockets becomes a clear favorite in the series if Butler is sidelined for the next games.
