The Buffalo Bills (7-3) return to action tomorrow at NRG Stadium, where they face the Houston Texans (5-5) in their Week 12 TNF primetime game. The Bills look forward to avenging last year’s close 23-20 loss to the Texans in the regular season at the same venue as tomorrow’s game.
The Bills and the Texans have played each other on twelve occasions before, including a single postseason game. The Texans have the upper hand over the Bills in their head-to-head record with seven wins. The single postseason game in this matchup took place in 2020 when Houston defeated Buffalo in overtime in an AFC Wild Card game.
The Bills hold the biggest win in the matchup, having shut out the Texans 40-0 in 2021. The Texans’ current starter, Davis Mills, threw four interceptions against no touchdowns, while Josh Allen registered two touchdowns.
As the Bills and Texans return from a successful Week 11, there’s more than rivalry statistics at stake. The Bills are chasing the New England Patriots, who are leading the AFC East with nine wins. The Bills have won the division in the past five years.
The reigning AFC South champions, the Texans, are also chasing, but they have a long road ahead to win the division this year. The Texans are third behind the Indianapolis Colts, who are in a league of their own this year, and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Texans, unlike the Bills, are not in the playoff spots. They are eighth, standing outside, peering in, and a win would substantially elevate their chances.

Why can the Buffalo Bills win?
Josh Allen bounced back to form against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a historic night after a few games with poor performances. He threw three touchdowns and rushed for another three, and became the only quarterback in history to have multiple games with touchdowns through the air and the ground.
In ten games, the Week 11 AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Allen has completed 69.6% of his passes for 2,456 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions. Furthermore, he has also rushed 65 times for 351 yards (5.4 average) and 10 touchdowns. A similar night for Allen would see him rising the MVP boards once again, and the Bills cruising with a win.
The Bills’ armory also features James Cook, who’s almost close to his third straight season with more than a thousand yards on the ground. He has averaged 5.3 yards per carry from 182 times, totaling 968 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is only behind Indianapolis Colts’ Jonathan Taylor in league rushing metrics.
Why can the Houston Texans win?
The Houston Texans will be led by Davis Mills, who has been performing much better than he was years ago when the Bills shut them out. He has completed 72 of 120 passes for 726 yards and three touchdowns with one interception while also contributing rushing through the ground.

The Texans are much stronger on the defensive side of the ball. They are ranked first in points and yards. The defense also ranks third in passing (171), rushing (87.1), and third-down defense (34.4%), fifth in takeaways (16), and 11th in sack percentage (7.0%). It would be difficult for Allen and his receiving room to run their passing plays against the Texans.
However, the Texans have yet to face a quarterback like Allen since Matthew Stafford in Week 1, and containing him would be a true test of their skills. They will look to reduce the Bills to yet another team that they have limited under 200 yards.
