The Miami Dolphins are hunting for their first win of the season against the divisional rivals Buffalo Bills. The Bills are currently leading the AFC East with two wins from two games, against the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets.

The season start hasn’t been ideal for the Fins, who are looking to bounce back from a subpar 2024. The Dolphins, who haven’t lost a single season start under Mike McDaniel, are now 0-2, a record they haven’t held since 2020. The Dolphins, who were once one of the strongest teams in the league, has winning records in just five of the past sixteen years.

The Bills and the Dolphins, being in the same division, have played each other 123 times. The Dolphins lead the record with 62-60-1, but luck has favored the Bills. They have won 15 of their last 17 matchups. The fifteen games currently include consecutive six wins overall and nine wins at the Bills’ turf. Bills head coach Sean McDermott has never lost to the Dolphins with a home advantage.

Why can the Dolphins win?

The Miami Dolphins, despite their drawbacks, showed that their offense can still be as dangerous as before. Tyreek Hill would be the key piece if the Fins are to defeat the powerful Bills.

Hill was the best player on the roster against the New England Patriots with 109 yards from 6 receptions, including a 47-yard catch. Jaylen Waddle and Malik Washington also provided more ammunition with a receiving and a punt return touchdown, respectively.

However, taking advantage of the Bills’ biggest flaw, run defense. The Bills rank in both yards allowed and yards per carry given up. This is where De’Von Achane can pitch in and play as an explosive running back.

Why are the Bills favored to win?

The Buffalo Bills’ first game of the season has put them in the front row of Super Bowl contenders from the AFC. Josh Allen has been quite the quarterback against the Miami Dolphins. In his last six regular-season games against the Fins, he has thrown 16 touchdowns while only being intercepted thrice.

In this season, Allen has completed 66.2% of his passes (47 of 71) for 542 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed for 89 yards and 20 touchdowns on 20 carries. He even had one explosive rush of 40 yards. Allen has also exhibited his big-play potential, especially in high-pressure scenarios.

Now, Tua Tagovailoa, the opposite quarterback, has been very inconsistent in the last two weeks. Though he was much better than the quarterback in the first game, Tagovailoa still threw a few throws that were clearly over. The quarterback’s chemistry, taking a back foot, with Hill, adds more pressure on the offense.

Now, add that to Tagovailoa’s existing bad record against the Bills. He has more interceptions (10) than touchdowns against the Bills. Furthermore, the Bills’ winning streak against the Dolphins at home is an added advantage for the boys in blue.

The Buffalo defensive line has delivered in both of its games. Having enjoyed a strong start to the season, DE Joey Bosa forced a fumble on the Jets’ second possession of the game. Buffalo isn’t only riding a two-game winning streak; the team has recorded at least one takeaway in six consecutive regular-season games dating back to Week 15 of 2024.
