The Miami Dolphins host the Baltimore Ravens in a crucial Thursday Night Football game between two teams with two wins in the season. The Ravens will travel south to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to play the Dolphins at 8:15 p.m. ET.

The Ravens and the Dolphins started their seasons with a loss. While the Ravens scooped up a win in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, the Dolphins waited until Week 4 against the New York Jets for their first victory. Both their second wins came in last week, the Ravens and Dolphins breaking four-game and three-game winless streaks.

The Ravens are considerably in the safe zone with one less match and one less loss as compared to the Dolphins. While 2-5 is not an easy way to recuperate and join the playoff race, the Ravens are not giving up. With their star quarterback and twice NFL MVP back in action, the Ravens would try to snatch away a crucial win and a confidence boost.

Beyond the season’s stakes, the Dolphins have unfinished business to take care of. The Dolphins were steamrolled and battered to submission in their last meeting by the Ravens. In 2023, the Ravens belted the Dolphins 56-19 at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, courtesy of five touchdowns by Lamar Jackson and one by Tyler Huntley.

It’s not the first time the Ravens scored more than 50 on the Dolphins while they were limited to less than 20 points on the board. In 2019, Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III threw five and one touchdowns, respectively for a 59-10 win.

In total, the Ravens and the Dolphins have faced each other on nineteen occasions. The Ravens have won 11 of those, including their only two postseason meetings.

Why can the Baltimore Ravens win?

The Baltimore Ravens, even in Lamar Jackson’s absence, were a terrifying team to face. With Jackson back in the fray, the Ravens will be more deadly. In his four games this season, Jackson threw for 869 yards and rushed for another 166. His through-air performance came with a 71.6 completion rate and ten touchdowns.

Jackson and Derrick Henry have become synonymous with danger for the opposing teams in the last season, and they will aim to do so against the Dolphins. Henry has logged 510 yards and six touchdowns on 109 carries (4.7 average), with two 100-yard games, including 122 yards against the Rams, and most recently posted 71 yards and two scores on 21 carries in the win over the Bears.

The Dolphins’ pass defense has been highly vulnerable, and an advantage for the Ravens. The Fins allow the league’s highest completion rate, recording the fewest interceptions, and surrendering the second-highest passer rating.

Why can the Miami Dolphins win?

The Miami Dolphins looked like a battered squad full of locker room troubles heading into the Week 8 battle against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons, despite a few losses, were not a small team, and the Dolphins ended up silencing them.

Tua Tagovailoa, who’s had the lion’s share of criticism in the past weeks, was in exceptional form despite his illness. He connected with his receivers, throwing for 205 yards and four touchdowns with a completion rate of 76.9 percent. The Dolphins’ reformed offensive strategy seemed to have made some positive changes. For one, the jumbo packages feature Daniel Brunskill as a sixth offensive lineman or running backs De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon together in the backfield.

On the defensive side, the Dolphins showed marked improvement against the run. The Dolphins headed into the game as the worst defense in the league, but came clutch in containing the Falcons’ run game. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his standout performance, the first Dolphins player since defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in 2015.
