On Sunday, Tiger Woods was once again asked about how close he was to return to competitive action. He would proceed to drop a 10-word update regarding this.

Woods has been out of action since 2024. His last competitive appearance came at the 2024 Open Championship from Royal Troon where he missed the cut.

Later that year, the 15-time major champion did play in a golf tournament and hit the greens. He would take part in the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie Woods, in the unofficial PGA Tour event. Team Woods would finish as the runners-up in this event after losing in the playoffs.

The former World No.1 was scheduled to make his 2025 debut at the Genesis Invitational. However, he would withdrew his name from the event following the demise of his mother, Kultida Woods.

He would then start preparing for the Masters Tournament. During this, he ruptured his Achilles tendon. This saw him miss the major championship event. Eventually, he ended up missing the entirety of the season as he underwent another back surgery in October and had his disc replaced.

Since then, there have been several questions regarding when Woods will play competitive golf again. At the 2026 Genesis Invitational press conference, he was asked whether him playing at the Masters this year was off the table. He would drop a 1-word reaction and say “No” and sent the golf fans into a frenzy.

During the third round of the event, Woods would join the broadcasting booth. In this, Trevor Immelman would ask if there was a chance of him actually playing at the Augusta National in April. The golfer admitted “there is” before adding that he was not sure whether he would play in any other event before that or not.

On Sunday, he was asked about his return again. Before Jupiter Links GC’s TGL game against Rory McIlroy‘s Boston Common Golf, Marty Smith would ask him about his potential return. This time, the 82-time PGA Tour winner dropped a 10-word update and claimed he was “ready” to go if he was playing a member-guest.

If I’m playing a member guest, I’m ready to go.

Interestingly, Woods is not listed as a member of the 2026 Seminole Pro-Member. While several big names are set to play in this private golf club tournament, Woods’ name is not in the playing field.

Speaking of the TGL, Woods and his team suffered an overtime loss. After the match finished at 6-6, the Jupiter Links GC lost in the closest-to-the-pin challenge.

After Team USA lost against Europe in Rome in 2023, captain Zach Johnson was relived of his duties. After that event, there were several speculations regarding Woods being the team captain in the 2025 edition.

In the end, the PGA Tour would appoint Keegan Bradley as the captain. Under his leadership, Team USA took on Europe at the Bethpage Black Course in New York.

Once again, Europe had a strong start and despite a late comeback from the Americans, they were able to hold them off and take home back-to-back titles.

Woods has now once again seen his name being linked with Team USA’s captain role. According to reports from AP, Woods has been given a “soft deadline” to think about his and make up his mind. He is also reported to be the only candidate at the moment.

During the press conference of the Genesis Invitational, Woods did comment on this matter. In this, he admitted that he had not made a decision yet as he was busy with his PGA Tour work.

Woods surprisingly, has a poor record in the Ryder Cup. Despite his individual dominance, the golfer has only one this event 1 time in his career.

Following the victory in 1999, he has lost this event in his next 7 appearances. He has a 13-21-3 record in 37 matches and went 0-4-0 in his last appearance in 2018.

He though, does have experience of being the captain and leading his country. During the 2019 Presidents Cup, he served as the playing-captain and led Team USA to a 16-14 win.

It now remains to be seen whether he will be the captain of Team USA at Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027. Whether it is Woods or someone else, the USA captain’s major task would be to stop a three-peat of Team Europe in the next edition.
