Tiger Woods is stepping away for a while. On Tuesday, the 15-time major champion broke his silence and announced that he will be taking a break from golf and seeking treatment following his recent car crash and DUI arrest.

On March 27, the golfer was involved in another car crash. His luxury SUV would flip over while clipping the trailer of a cleaner truck he was trying to surpass.

This incident took place around 2 p.m. near his residence in Jupiter, Florida. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured in this accident.

During investigation, he would have a negative result for alcohol. However, he would refuse to take part in urinalysis. He was later arrested and booked under charges of DUI, property damage and refusal to submit.

This development sent a massive shockwave across social media. Many would call him out and urge him to get a car service. There were also a lot of speculations regarding his playing future.

Four days after the incident, Woods opened up. In a post on X, the 50-year-old released a statement and expressed that he understands the seriousness of the situation he is in.

I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

This means that Woods will not be part of the upcoming Masters Tournament. The 5-time Masters Champion was listed as a participant on the website on Monday following the conclusion of the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

A few days before his crash, Woods did take part in the TGL finals for Jupiter Links GC. This was the first time he played in the tech-fused league in over a year. His last competitive start on the PGA Tour came in 2024 at the Open Championship at Royal Troon. He missed the cut in that event with a 14-over par score.

Tiger Woods was “sweating profusely” after car crash

Tiger Woods found himself at the center of attention for the wrong reasons once again on Friday after his DUI arrest. As per officials, the golf great was “sweating profusely” after the car crash.

According to an arrest affidavit, Woods’ eyes were “glassy‘ and “bloodshot.” His pupils were also dilated during the field sobriety tests.

Two small white pills were also found in his pocket. The pills were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat severe, chronic pain.

He was said to be looking down at his phone and was distracted by the radio and did not realize until it was too late to avoid a collision.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner has pleaded not guilty in his DUI arrest case. He has demanded a trial with a jury. As per TMZ, he has retained Douglas Duncan, the same attorney who reduced his charges to reckless driving in 2017.

While he was not playing, Woods was working as one of the player-directors on the PGA Tour and was the chairman of the PGA Tour Future Competition Committee.

There had also been talks of him being the captain of Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup. A report claimed that he had been given a “soft deadline” to think about the captaincy role.

He will now keep all of this aside and take a break. Fans, who were eager to see him return on the greens, will have to wait a bit more for that to happen.
