History was made at the Augusta National on Sunday, April 13. Rory McIlroy finally overcame his demons of this course and clinched his maiden victory at the Masters Tournament. He thus completed the career grand slam. 15-time major champion Tiger Woods then dropped a heartfelt message for him and congratulated him for this.

Having won the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship by 2014, McIlroy was looking to add the Masters Tournament to his resume. Following a runner-up finish in the 2022 event, he missed the cut in 2023 and finished T22 last year.

All of this led to many wondering whether he could actually do it. This year, he entered the tournament as the favorite to win it following his wins at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship. After a topsy-turvy final round, McIlroy eventually got the job done in the playoff round against Justin Rose.

With this win, McIlroy became the sixth player in history to complete the career grand slam. Following his win, Tiger Woods would share a heartfelt message for him and expressed that he was “proud” of him.

Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory. Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you’re a part of history. Proud of you!

Mickelson, the 3-time Masters Champion, was among 12 LIV Golfers to participate in the event this year. However, he missed the cut this year after firing scores of 75 and 74 in the first two rounds.

Prior to this event, he was one of the three active golfers, including Rory McIlroy, who had completed three legs of the grand slam. The veteran golfer needs to win the U.S. Open, an event where he has finished as the runner-up on 6 occasions, to complete the career grand slam.

Given his age, that might become a bit difficult. He, though, has turned back the clock before and won the PGA Championship in 2021 at the age of 50. With that triumph, he became the oldest major winner in golf history.
