“Truly lost a friend,” Tiger Woods mourns passing of golf insider Steve DiMeglio at age of 63
Renowned golf writer Steve DiMeglio passed away on Wednesday at the age of 63 after a two-year battle with rectal cancer.

At the start of the New Year, the world of golf lost one of its true icons as beloved insider Steve DiMeglio passed away at the age of 63. The golf writer died after a 2-year battle with cancer. Tiger Woods was one of them who would take to his X account to mourn his passing.
DiMeglio had made a name for himself while working for USA Today and then Golfweek. Just like Woods, DiMeglio’s popularity rose in the 2000’s.
DiMeglio had established a deep bond with Woods and covered several stories about him. He was recently seen meeting him at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, as Tiger Woods hosted the event. The two would share a warm hug with each other.

In a post on X, the 15-time major champion paid homage to his late friend and called it a “very sad day for all of golf“.
Unfortunately the golf world lost part of our family today, beloved golf writer Steve DiMeglio. I was always very close to Steve and we texted and talked about how he needed to keep fighting to get better so we could see each other in the Bahamas last month. And we did. I am so grateful for that.ย This a very sad day for all of golf. We have truly lost a friend.

As per reports, Woods would constantly check on DiMeglio during his battle and spoke with him on several occasions. He would even send advance copies of his video game to DiMeglio.
PGA Tour pays tribute to Steve DiMeglio
The death of Steve DiMeglio has left the world of golf in a sad state. Several people have since paid their tributes. The official account of the PGA Tour joined the others in mourning his passing and expressed their condolences.

8-time PGA Tour champion Billy Horschel reflected back on his relationship with DiMeglio. Horschel claimed that he would miss him greatly.

DiMeglio graduated from Mankato West High School and attended Minnesota State University for higher studies. His professional career as a journalist began in 1994 after he started working for the Palm Springs Desert Sun. His work at USA Today and later in Golfweek earned him huge recognition among the golfing world.
