Golf great Tiger Woods has not teed off in months. The former World No.1 ruptured his Achilles while trying to get in shape for the 2025 Masters Tournament. As he continues to remain on the sidelines, a 4-time major champion urged him to join the PGA Champions Tour in 2026.
Woods, the 15-time major champion, will turn 50 in December 2025. This would make him eligible to play on the senior tour, which consists of 54 holes and allows the players to use golf carts instead of walking all 18 holes. Since his car crash in 2021, Woods has made sporadic appearances. In the last 5 years, he has made just 13 starts and has not recorded any top-25 finishes.
With Woods being a shadow of his former self, 4-time major champion and one of his career rivals, Ernie Els, recently encouraged him to come and play on the senior tour. The South African international jokingly claimed that he should come here and try to beat them again if he can.
I’ve said, please come play. And I think it can only be beneficial to him. He will get himself in golf shape. You can ride a cart without any shame and if there was one guy that should be able to drive a cart, it’s him. And he can get his a** back in shape. Beat us again…if you can.
Ernie Els said as per The Palm Beach Post

Woods’ playing on the senior circuit has been discussed before as well. His former caddie, Joe LaCava, in 2024 claimed that Woods’ addition to the PGA Champions Tour would be a “great boost” for them. Woods did play this year during the inaugural edition of the TGL. He would represent his team, Jupiter Links GC. Unfortunately, his team finished 5th with just 1 win and did not make it to the playoffs.
He was later supposed to make his first start of the year at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, a tournament in which he serves as the host. However, following the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, the golfer withdrew from the event. He would then get injured while trying to get back in shape for the Masters Tournament and was forced to watch the action from the sidelines.
Tiger Woods was recently named as the chairman of a new PGA Tour committee
Despite not playing as much as he would have hoped for, Tiger Woods has remained in close contact with the PGA Tour. While serving as the player-director on the PGA Tour policy board, he has now gained another responsibility as he was named the chairman of a new PGA Tour committee.

Last week, the PGA Tour hosted the Tour Championship, the final event of the 2025 season, at East Lake in Atlanta. Before this event, new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp took part in his first public address since taking over the role.
During this, Rolapp announced a new body, the PGA Tour Future Competition Committee. Woods was named as the chairman of this committee. He, along with several other members on this new committee, will work together to improve the quality of the tour and increase its value to their fans, players, and partners.
Woods would later take to his X account to make his feelings known. The 82-time PGA Tour winner claimed that he was “honored” to get this opportunity and thanked Rolapp.
Honored to serve as Chairman of the Future Competition Committee. This is about shaping the next era of the PGA TOUR — for our fans, players and partners. Thanks to @BrianRolapp for his vision and leadership, and grateful to the committee members for their willingness to participate

Tiger Woods has also been in the spotlight this year for his off-course actions. Earlier this year at the Genesis Invitational, he was spotted entering the field before the final round alongside Vanessa Trump, the ex-daughter-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump. Following some rumors, the 49-year-old golfer took to his social media accounts and went public about his relationship with her.
