A few days after his car crash and DUI arrest, Tiger Woods made his first comments on Tuesday. While the golfer announced that he will be taking a break from golf and seeking treatment, he is reported to have pleaded not guilty in his arrest case.

The former World No.1 was involved in a car crash on Friday, March 27. His luxury Land Rover would flip over after clipping a cleaner truck near his residence in Jupiter, Florida.

Woods would blow a 0.00 on the alcohol breathalyzer, confirming that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol. However, the golfer would refuse to participate in a urinalysis.

He was arrested and booked under charges of DUI, refusal to submit and property damage. Around 8 hours later, he was released on bail.

According to the arrest affidavit, he was “sweating profusely” during the questioning. His eyes were “glassy” and “bloodshot” while his pupils were dilated. Two white pills were also found from his pocket.

These were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat severe, chronic pain. Woods was reported to be distracted by the radio and was looking down on his phone while driving.

The golfer has pleaded not guilty to the DUI case. As per reports, he has demanded a fair trial with a jury. Douglas Duncan, who represented him during 2017 and reduced his charges to reckless driving, will be representing him again.

In 2017, Woods was found unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle in Jupiter, Florida. Toxicology reports later revealed the presence of 5 drugs into his system.

Donald Trump claims he spoke with Tiger Woods after his arrest

Tiger Woods’ recent car crash and arrest sent a major shock across social media. Donald Trump had expressed that he was feeling bad for his close friend. Before Woods’ statement on Tuesday, the U.S. President claimed that he had spoken with him after the arrest.

Trump and Woods have a good relationship with one another. They have played together several times.

In 2019, the golfer received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump. Last year, when his mother, Kultida Woods, passed away, Trump extended his condolences.

While speaking with the New York Post, the 79-year-old confirmed that he had spoken with him. During this he gave an update regarding the golfer and expressed that he was living with pain.

He’s doing good. He tested negative for alcohol, as you know… He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain. He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.

Donald Trump said regarding Tiger Woods

Woods was involved in a major car accident outside of Los Angeles, California, in 2021. He would suffer multiple lower body injuries and required several surgeries.

Since this crash, Woods has struggled with fitness and made very few starts. Last year, he ruptured his Achilles tendon while preparing for the Masters Tournament. In October, he underwent another back surgery and replaced his disc.

In the past few weeks, there had been a lot of speculation about him returning to competitive action at the Masters this year. However, he will not be teeing up now as he steps away from the game to focus on his health.
