Tiger Woods is gearing up for another return to the golf course. On Tuesday, the 15-time major champion confirmed that he will be competing in the upcoming PNC Championship alongside his Charlie Woods after a back surgery.

The 48-year-old golfer once again struggled with his health this year. Though he appeared in all four major championships, he missed the cut in three of them. Following the Open Championship, he underwent another surgery on his back.

Last week, the 82-time PGA Tour winner claimed that he was not tournament sharp yet. As a result of this, he did not participate in the Hero World Challenge and instead watched the actions from the sidelines.

Him missing this event raised some questions regarding his participation in the PNC Championship. He has participated in this unofficial event with his son Charlie quite a few times now. Woods has now cleared the confusion regarding his future and has committed to taking part in this tournament.

Commenting on this appearance, Woods expressed that he was ‘excited‘ to head back to the event with his son.

I’m very excited to head back to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie. Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you’re surrounded by friends and family.

Last year, the duo once again failed to win the championship despite shooting an impressive score of 11-under 61 in the final round. Their best finish came in 2021 when they finished as runner-ups.

Tiger Woods backs Keegan Bradley as USA Ryder Cup captain

After Zach Johnson was dismissed as the USA Ryder Cup captain following the team’s poor performance in the 2023 Ryder Cup, the name of Tiger Woods as a potential captain for the team came up. Woods would eventually decline this honor and Keegan Bradley was later selected to be captain. The former World No.1 has backed Bradley as the captain.

At the Hero World Challenge, Woods slipped into the NBC Sports broadcasting booth where he discussed the choice of appointing Bradley as the captain. The veteran golfer thinks that the Vermont-born player is the perfect choice for this role, given his New England roots.

To where he’s from and what he’s meant to the north-east, I think it’s a natural fit. His connection he’s not really that old. So most of the guys he’s played with and I think that he has naturally been a very emotional and very fiery, opinionated leader and I think that he’ll do really well at Bethpage.

Woods also spoke about how the 7-time PGA Tour winner could take on the playing role as well. However, he did warn him about the toll it could take while recounting his appearance at the 2019 Presidents Cup where he was the playing captain. Woods claimed that he had “no sleep” as there was lot of responsibility as captain and a player.

Bradley was one of the top players who was not selected as a captain’s pick in the 2023 edition. Following the performance of the USA in Italy, several people urged that he should have been there with the team.

He now finds himself with the huge responsibility of leading the team in the 2025 event at Bethpage, New York as the team hopes to win back the Ryder Cup. As for Team Europe, they have stuck with Luke Donald and will be aiming to go back-to-back in October next year.
