Tiger Woods is presently competing at the 2024 Open Championship in Royal Troon. His health has been a source of worry, particularly following a difficult year. Woods has suffered several ailments, including severe back pain and complications after ankle surgery in 2023.
According to recent reports, Woods has been training intensively. He landed in Scotland and practiced immediately following an overnight journey, exhibiting his dedication to the sport.
I'm physically feeling a lot better than I did at the beginning of the year. As the year has gone on, I have gotten better.Tiger Woods told the reporters
Woods has had a mixed performance at the Open in Round 1. He scored an 8-over 79 in the first round, which raised questions about his ability to compete successfully given the hard circumstances and his persistent health challenges.
Tiger Woods’ injuries and performance this year
Tiger Woods was involved in a major automobile accident on February 23, 2021. The event took place early in the morning in Los Angeles County. Woods was driving alone in his 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV when he lost control on a downward, curving route. His truck crossed into oncoming traffic and went off the road, rolling many times before coming to a stop on a hillside.
Woods had significant injuries, including comminuted open fractures in his right leg. This form of fracture occurs when the bone is shattered into many fragments and the damage breaks through the skin. He also sustained damage to his ankle and soft tissue in the leg.
Woods played all four majors in the year. The Masters was disappointing for him as he finished 60th after making the cut. This marked a record 24 consecutive cuts made. He missed the cut in the PGA Championship, adding to his recent troubles.
Woods also competed in the U.S. Open but failed to make the cut. Overall, he has only played eleven rounds of official golf this year, with none of them better than 72. His best round has been a 72, and he has recorded four rounds of 77 or below.
