As the MLB offseason goes on, the trade rumors continue to pile up. In the midst of this, Detroit Tigers General Manager Scott Harris made a bold comment regarding Tarik Skubal, expressing that no one on the team is “untouchable.“
The 2-time Cy Young Award winner has been in the trade rumors for a while now. Following a dominating season in 2024, where he won the triple crown, the southpaw continued his dominance from the mound this year.
Skubal ended the 2025 season with a 13-6 record and 241 strikeouts. Despite a strong individual performance in the postseason, the Tigers were unable to make a deep playoff run and suffered another Game 5 American League Division Series (ALDS) exit.
This marked a second successive ALDS elimination for the Tigers. The 2025 season was a topsy-turvy one for them as they went from being top of the AL Central division to blowing a 15.5-game lead against the Cleveland Guardians.
With Skubal entering the final year of his deal in the 2026 season, the Tigers are trying to tie him down to a huge deal. They also face a huge dilemma of either running out of his deal and losing him for free or trading him away and getting something in exchange.
During the Winter Meeting on Monday, GM Scott Harris was asked whether the team’s timeframe to win a World Series with Skubal was closing down. While the executive expressed that he will not speculate on trade regarding his own players, he admitted that no one in the team was “untouchable” at the moment.
I won’t speculate on trades for our own players. It’s just not fair to the players. It’s not fair to the other teams. I mean, the clearest way I can answer that is I don’t believe in untouchable players at any level. It’s not a commentary on Tarik. It’s more of a blanket approach to building a winning organization. My job is to make this organization better.

Harris further expressed that his job was to find ways to make the team better. As a result of this, he is open to hear every offer.
Following his 2nd successive Cy Young Award victory, the pitcher expressed that he wants to stay with the Tigers for a long time.
Tarik Skubal: "Contract extension stuff is a little bit different, but trade stuff is out of my control. I've given everything I have to this organization. I want to be a Tiger for a very long time. … I love Detroit. Hopefully, I'm here. That's where I'm at with all of that."

Sports anchor claims LA Dodgers are working on trade deal with Detroit Tigers regarding Tarik Skubal
Following the words of Detroit Tigers GM Scott Harris regarding Tarik Skubal, teams have stepped up in their pursuit of the ace pitcher. A sports anchor on Monday claimed that the Los Angeles Dodgers are working on a trade deal to land the 29-year-old.

In a video shared on X, KTLA Sports Anchor David Pingalore expressed hearing that Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman has been working on a trade deal to bring the southpaw to the Dodgers.
Here’s the deal, here’s what I’m hearing. Right now, Andrew Friedman is trying to work a deal in a major trade for Tarik Skubal… Tigers want to get rid of him and get as much for him as possible. But it certainly looks like he’s going to end up somewhere. The Dodgers would be the odds-on favorite probably to get him. They got the capital and they got the players.

So far, nothing has been confirmed yet. Skubal is expected to make around $300-$400 million in free agency next year.
The Dodgers have the resources to land him on a trade and then either extend his contract or re-sign him in the next offseason. Only time will reveal what will happen regarding the future of Skubal.
