The Detroit Tigers are spiraling down. The American League Central side lost its 5th successive game on Friday, leading to some wild reactions among fans on social media.
After getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opening series, the Tigers went on a win streak, winning 8 of the next 10 games. They would establish themselves as one of the contenders for the World Series this year with some dominating performances.
Following a 59-34 record, the Tigers lost 4 games on the bounce to end the 1st half of the season. Despite that, they had one of the best records in the league. Things have, however, not changed since the start of the 2nd half of the season.
In the 8 games since the All-Star Break, the team has lost 7 of them, with 5 of them coming in a row. This included them getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 3-game series.
On Friday, the team lost 6-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays at home. In total, the Tigers have lost 11 of their last 12 games, leaving them with a 60-45 record.
Final: Blue Jays 6, Tigers 2

This is the worst stretch the Tigers have had this season. At once stage, they had a commanding lead over their division rivals. While they still lead the Cleveland Guardians by 7.5 games, given the form they are in, the lead looks fragile.
MLB fans react to Tigers losing 5th successive game in a row
The high-flying Detroit Tigers have suffered a major skid in recent weeks. The 4-time World Series winners have lost 11 out of their last 12 games in the league, which has seen their good record take a massive hit.

Their 5th consecutive loss on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays sparked some wild reactions among fans. While some Tigers fans expressed their sorrow for dropping another game, some made fun of the team. One user, meanwhile, wrote, “This team is cooked” while making their feelings known.

This team is cooked. Ownership is weak. On the path of blowing a huge lead and missing playoffs.

2025 Detroit Tigers: trying to do the exact opposite
One of the struggling points for the Tigers in this slump has been their inability to hold on to the leads and starting pitchers going deep. On Friday, they once again took an early 1-0 lead but were unable to hold it.
For a third successive start, pitcher Keider Montero was unable to last five innings. The pitcher gave up 9 hits against the Blue Jays and lasted just 4 innings. Before that, he lasted 4.1 innings against the Texas Rangers and just 3 innings against the Seattle Mariners.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch expresses confidence in bouncing back
Like almost every other team this year, the Detroit Tigers are going through a rough phase. The team has only won 1 of its last 12 games, leaving many fans worried about their future. Manager A.J. Hinch, though, has backed his team and expressed confidence in bouncing back.

Both the offense and the defense of the Tigers have struggled in recent weeks. They were outscored 17-6 in the 3-game series sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the 2 losses against the Blue Jays, they have been outscored by the same margin of 17-6.
While speaking with the reports, the manager expressed that his team needs one good game to take off once again.
This has been a rough couple of weeks. Right now, we’re trying to keep our chins up, keep our chest out, realize we’re still a first-place team, and we’re one good game away from potentially taking off again.

That’s two in a row in Detroit 😎

The Blue Jays take Game 2 with a 6-2 win over the Tigers pic.twitter.com/K3VNEwVyNG
The Tigers will enter the game on Saturday with the hopes of putting an end to this losing run and getting back to winning ways. A loss would see them lose the 4-game series against the Blue Jays and put them on a brink of another series sweep.
Speaking of the Blue Jays, their win on Friday saw them extend their record to 62-42 for the season, giving them the best record in the league at the moment. As per stats by Sportsnet, the last time the Canadian outfit had the best record in the league this late into the season was in 1992, when they won the World Series.
