Tiki Barber has had varied opinions on Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen in the past. However, the retired Big Blue went off, accusing both of mishandling Daniel Jones’ release.

During a recent segment with the SNY Media on the WFAN Sports Radio channel, Barber argued Daboll and Schoen focused on getting rid of Jones instead of predicting how the move two days before a crucial game would affect the locker room’s morale.

Barber called the act an ‘egregious mistake’ while posing the question, ‘Do you know what the hell are you doing?’ The former running back appeared frustrated that the front office chose to save their skins, which resulted in a complete beatdown at the hands of a good Buccaneers team in week 12.

Forget about how you’re going to be evaluated. Forget about how people are going to think about you, Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, and forget about the emotion that’s… you’re gonna absorb because of this [Jones’ release]. This isn’t about you. There are 53 guys [who] have to play a football game; that’s going to evaluate you more than what you do for a business decision.

Tiki Barber offered advice on how Daboll and Schoen should have handled Daniel Jones

The 2023 season ended prematurely for Jones after he tore his ACL. Rumors about drafting a new quarterback grew stronger in the offseason, but Schoen ditched the idea and named the former 6th overall pick as the starter for the 2024 season.

Jones started 10 games for the Giants, won two, and lost eight. They eventually grew tired of his subpar performances and decided to cut him from the team right before playing the Buccaneers.

[If] you gotta make a business decision, [then] make it. [But] don’t push it into the week where the guys are gonna get so distracted they can’t focus on football. The way they handled it in a game week was just bad.

Backup Tommy DeVito debuted, but the Bucs proved too strong. The Giants lost 7-30 to end up with a 2-9 record. Barber argued cutting Jones days before a game was a monumental mistake as they were already facing backlash from some of the senior players for demoting Jones to fourth choice.

The Giants are in the market for a new quarterback next year, but until then, Daboll and Schoen have to play Russian roulette between DeVito and Drew Lock.
