Despite leading the Dallas Cowboys to the playoffs with the NFC East title last season, Dak Prescott went through intense scrutiny over his ability to lead the offense. Meanwhile, divisional rival quarterback Daniel Jones merely played six games due to serious injury– yet when legend Tiki Barber was asked whom he would pick between the two, he didn’t hesitate to support his home team by picking Jones.
Ahead of the 2023 campaign, when the New York Giants signed Jones in a historic four-year deal, Prescott became eligible for an extension. However, the Cowboys awaited the entire 2023 season, followed by several months of the offseason, which continues even today, to offer a deserving extension to the three-time Pro Bowler.
If viewed from last season’s perspective, Prescott leads Jones in all criteria. Still, the Giants’ legendary running back asserted he would pick Jones “100 out of 100 times,” during his appearance on the Big Apple afternoon radio show.
I would take Daniel Jones over Dak Prescott 100 out of 100 times. And I think most people would agree with me based on where these the projection of where both of these players are going.Tiki Barber said
Amid Prescott’s contract standoff with Dallas, many believe owner Jerry Jones is highly unlikely to offer an extension if he doesn’t succeed in the Super Bowl, leaving the only option available to him to enter free agency. This might be something that Barber is hinting at with the ‘projection’ part.
How injuries hinder Daniel Jones’ potential as top QB?
The Giants fanatics believe if Jones’ career hadn’t been plagued with injuries, he may have been among the top quarterbacks in the league. While talking on the subject, Barber evaluated New York’s signal-caller more closely and believes he has amazing skills for the starter position.
If there's even a question, then you have not established yourself. And Daniel Jones, in year six going into seven, has not established himself yet. That's why the Giant fan is frustrated with him.Tiki Barber said
Though Barber acknowledges the immense potential of Jones, he added that fans have become tired of waiting for him to develop into that player. Additionally, Chris Simms also ranked Jones above Prescott during last season’s campaign.
