Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic has made a good start to his campaign at the 2024 Roland Garros as he beat Pierre-Hugues Herbert in his first-round match. Djokovic won the match in straight sets 6-4 7-6(2) 6-4. With this win, Djokovic has put all the apprehensions about his form behind him and will be looking to capitalize on the start and Tim Henman believes the Serbian is capable of turning things around.

The tennis expert has claimed that the 24-time Grand Slam champion is among those rare players who can find their form midway through a Grand Slam tournament. Henman said that Djokovic knows the art of putting the foot on the throat at the right time.

The former British tennis player said that Djokovic went into the lockdown mode where he does not make any unforced error in the third set. Henman then made his point about the Serbian finding his form while playing through the Grand Slam tournament.

I think if it goes to one set all, everyone is thinking could there be an upset on the cards? But in those biggest moments, and certainly - with all due respect - against someone like Herbert on clay, you just sensed that Djokovic was going to go into that lockdown mode where he doesn’t make any unforced errors. To go two sets to love up, it just gives him a great cushion. Djokovic is one of the few players who can really play their way into form in a Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic admits it is getting tougher for him

While Tim Henman is optimistic about Novak Djokovic‘s chances, the Serbian is also seeing every match as a golden opportunity for himself. However, the 37-year-old also admits that it is getting tougher for him.

Djokovic said that with the age catching up, it is difficult for him now. The 24-time Grand Slam champion also emphasized the importance of delivering the performance despite all the experience he has. Nevertheless, Djokovic is happy about the winning start and now wants to continue with the momentum for the rest of the tournament.

Especially on clay, you have to deliver the goods, you have to be physically fit and ready to go in the long rally exchanges. Of course it’s becoming tougher for me, but I’m still enjoying myself. Out of all the clay court tournaments, this is by far my favourite, the way I’m playing the ball and feeling on the court. Hopefully I can keep it going in the right direction.

The Serbian will face Robert Carballes Baena in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. After struggling to win a title in the first five tournaments, Djokovic now has a chance to end the wait with a 25th Grand Slam title of his career. But before that, he has major challenges to overcome.
