Carlos Alcaraz is now the winner of seven Grand Slam titles. After reaching his career’s first Australian Open final, Alcaraz beat the tournament’s most successful player, Novak Djokovic, in four sets to become the youngest man in the Open Era to reach the Career Grand Slam milestone.

With this win, he broke the Grand Slam title tally tie with the greats of the game, like Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg. He’s now tied with John McEnroe, and if he wins another Major, he will join Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl with eight singles titles. Former British No.1 Tim Henman is convinced that the rate at which Alcaraz is winning titles, he will tie Roger Federer with 20 Majors.

We’re already talking about Alcaraz going to far surpass that total. I referred to Pete Sampras. When I was playing, he won 14, and I would have bet my last dollar that nobody would ever surpass that. So it’s incredible how high the bar has been set. Now we’re speculating that Alcaraz will win 20 Grand Slam tournaments, and will Sinner do the same? Is it unfair to speculate? I don’t think so. Is it unrealistic? I don’t think so. It’s simply going to be very enjoyable for all of us to watch.

Tim Henman told TNT Sports

The World No.1 now holds a 5-5 head-to-head record over the Serb, who made a Major final for the first time since the 2024 Wimbledon (lost to the Spaniard). Djokovic last won a title at this level at the 2023 US Open.

Boris Becker on Carlos Alcaraz winning the Australian Open without Juan Carlos Ferrero

Juan Carlos Ferrero left Carlos Alcaraz‘s team last December due to disagreements over the new contract. Question marks loomed over the future of Alcaraz because all that he had achieved before this Australian Open win was under the tutelage of the 2003 French Open champion.

Now that he got hold of the Melbourne Slam, he has proved the doubters wrong. Boris Becker thinks Alcaraz did the right thing by deciding to end his partnership with Ferrero.

It was a difficult decision for team Alcaraz to part ways with the successful duo of Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero. But after 14 days, we know that the decision was the right one. The journey continues, and he has the tennis world at his feet. He is a very likable player. The semifinal against Alexander Zverev was hard-fought, but today he was simply outstanding.

Boris Becker told Eurosport Germany

Alcaraz is the sixth man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam, joining Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. The Murcia native has also extended the Big Titles lead over his arch-rival, Jannik Sinner.

The Australian Open trophy was Alcaraz’s career’s 15th big title (seven Majors and eight Masters 1000s). Sinner is the winner of 11 Big Titles (four Majors, five Masters 1000s, and two ATP Finals).

The streak of Sinner or Alcaraz winning a Major continues. Since Djokovic’s 24th Major triumph at the 2023 US Open, only one of these two youngsters has taken home the Grand Slam titles. In 2024 and 2025, Alcaraz and Sinner split the eight Majors.

It was Sinner whom Djokovic overcame in the semifinals to set up the clash with Alcaraz in the championship match. Also, Djokovic suffered his career’s first defeat in an Australian Open final. In 2024 and 2025, he crashed out in the semifinals. Sinner beat him in 2024, but last year, an injury forced him to give the walkover to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev.
