Tim Henman believes Emma Raducanu needs to focus on one key area to continue climbing the WTA Rankings in 2025. The former British No. 1 highlighted the importance of improving her resilience to stay consistent throughout the season.
Raducanu started 2024 ranked No. 301 after being sidelined by injuries during the second half of the previous year. Despite this, she showed promise by reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, the semi-finals at the Nottingham Open, and two quarter-finals. These performances helped her climb back into the top 100 after Wimbledon and finish the year at No. 58.
I think the challenge for Raducanu is around physical resilience. You talk about Katie Boulter and all the improvements that she made. Yes, she has got better as a tennis player, her movement has improved, but it’s also the resilience to be able to play that full schedule.
Tim Henman said on Sky Sports Tennis podcast
However, injuries continued to disrupt her season. She played just 13 WTA events and missed many tournaments, including most of the Asia swing, due to a foot injury suffered at the Korea Open. This stop-start pattern affected her ability to build momentum throughout the year.
You saw Katie at the end of the year playing four or five tournaments in a row. She made a final in Hong Kong, at the last event of the year and finished in the top 25. Raducanu has had a decent year going from sort of 300 into the top 60 but, when you look at the amount of tennis she’s played, she hasn’t played a great deal. If she builds up that resilience, every time she steps on the court, she was playing good tennis. Therefore, top 50, top 30 in 2025, I think is completely realistic
Tim Henman added
Henman believes Raducanu has the potential to reach the top 30 in 2025 if she can stay healthy and consistent. He sees this as a realistic goal, given her past success and ability to perform well when fit.
