The US Presidential Elections 2024 is less than a week away and the candidates are all fired up with the campaign. And Tim Walz, who is running for the Vice President candidacy, sure knows how to effectively connect with the public on key topics. That’s why, standing before the room full of Green Bay Packers fans, he picked the Chicago Bears as the subject.

Walz, who’s known to be a Minnesota Vikings fan, was well-prepared on Monday as he addressed a crowd in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Referencing the Bears’ game against the Washington Commanders, the Democratic leader took some shots at the Bears over the failed Hail Mary coverage

We’re leaving it all on the field — unlike the Bears, I might add. They earned it, too

The failed Hail Mary coverage on Sunday Night Football game was addressed as a “terrible play” by the sports analyst Bill Belichick. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who was supposed to be covering Commanders’ Noah Brown, was seen gesturing to the fans when the ball was snapped and he rushed toward the middle of the football field to jump at it.

To his misfortune, the ball was tipped and caught by none other than Brown. The game concluded with the Commanders’ 18-15 victory dropping Chicago to a 4-3 record. The NFC North rivals are scheduled for their first face-off of the season in Week 10.

Deep-rooted rivalry between Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears

As expected, Waltz drew laughter from the Packers fans. The Bears and Packers are considered the oldest rivalry in NFL history– dating back to November 23, 1924. It was the first game where this rivalry erupted with a fight between the Packers’ Tillie Voss and Bears’ Frank Hanny

Since its establishment, Windy City has had around 36 Pro Football Hall of Fame members whereas Green Bay has 33. The latter leads in the total number of NFL championships and Super Bowls with 13 and 4 trophies respectively while the Bears have 9 championships and 1 Super Bowl trophy

Over time, the league has witnessed multiple iterations of this age-old rivalry continue to thrive to this day. The widely accepted reason for this hatred between both the teams and their fanbases is considered their natural geographic connection and being placed in the same division of NFC North.
