Celtics Legends Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett discuss the Knicks-Timberwolves trade

The Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks shook the entire NBA with their blockbuster trade this offseason. The T-wolves traded their franchise center Karl Anthony Towns, for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo from the Knicks. While most of the focus of the trade has revolved around the two All-Star big men, Paul Pierce believes in a different X-factor.

On the Ticket & The Truth podcast, Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce discussed the biggest trade of the offseason. Pierce revealed that he believes the X-factor in this trade is the addition of Donte DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves. In fact, Pierce called the Villanova sharpshooter a ‘DOG’ for his tenacity and grit.

I think Minnesota won that trade. Because I love Divincenzo though, man. He is a DOG… I walked away from last year watching him like, he is a starter in the league.

Paul Pierce said on the podcast

Pierce and Garnett were in agreement, as they termed DiVincenzo the key player in this trade. The sharpshooting ability of the shooting guard, combined with his defensive tenacity, make him a perfect addition to the Timberwolves roster.

The combined addition of Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the roster made the Celtics duo pick the T-Wolves as the winner of the trade.

Donte DiVincenzo comes clean about quarrel with Knicks

Donte DiVincenzo was a central piece to the Knicks Eastern Conference Semi-Finals run in the 2023-24 NBA playoffs. After averaging nearly 18 points on 42.5% shooting from three, the trade to the Timberwolves came as a shock to the Villanova guard.

While the Knicks formed a brotherhood amongst their team last season, the first meeting between the two teams since the trade became the center of an ugly quarrel.

During the preseason matchup between the Knicks and Timberwolves, Donte DiVincenzo made it a point to trash-talk the Knicks bench after every shot he made. But things took an ugly turn when a verbal spat broke out between DiVincenzo and Jalen Brunson’s father. Here’s what DiVincenzo had to say about his trash-talking and quarrel following the game:

I’m not there anymore, I play competitive, I wear my heart on my sleeve and that’s all it was.

Donte DiVincenzo told reporters following the game

The two teams will next meet on Dec. 19 in Minnesota before a return to the Madison Square Garden for DiVincenzo on Jan. 17. Expect both matches to be an absolute cracker with fieriness from both side on display.
