Tennessee Titans defensive back L’Jarius Sneed has been named as a defendant in a civil action seeking damages of $1 million. The lawsuit was filed by a Texan who alleged that either the player himself or his assistant fired at him while he was sitting inside a Mercedes-Benz on a dealer’s lot.

The man, identified as Christian Nshimiyimana, owns an exotic car rental and dealership faced the incident while he was researching vehicles in Carlton, Texas. Nshimiyimana claimed that a Lamborghini Urus driving past One Legacy Motors in 2311 Midway Road, Carlton, fired bullets aimed at his Mercedes G Wagon. However, no one was injured during the shooting incident.

In his lawsuit filed on February 20 in Dallas County, Texas, Nshimiyimana, 23, accused Sneed and a defendant listed as “John Doe” of “an unprovoked attack in cold blood and broad daylight.”

Attorney Levi McCathern stated on Friday that L’Jarius Sneed and an accomplice were taken into custody by the Carrollton Police Department on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the shooting. Significant portions of the police report obtained by The Associated Press remain redacted.

The proof is there. There is video surveillance from the dealership showing the car and the person who opened fire on Christian. We want to know why this happened. We’re thankful no one was shot, but we continue to search for the reason behind this incident.

Levi McCathern said in his statement

McCathern also alleged that Sneed, along with a woman claiming to be his mother, contacted Nshimiyimana after the incident and issued threats. The woman allegedly pressured him not to cooperate with law enforcement or seek legal representation.

L’Jarius Sneed, who joined the Tennessee Titans last March for a four-year, $76 million deal after a shock exit from the Kansas City Chiefs, took part in just five games in 2024. The defensive back suffered a quadriceps injury, which landed him on the injury sidelines for most of the season.

The Titans spokesperson has commented on the situation to Teresa Walker of Associated Press. In an official statement, they claimed that they are “aware of the matter and have been in contact with NFL Security per league protocol.”

The latest development could be a thorn in Sneed’s plan to return. Last week, Brian Callahan, the Titans’ head coach, noted that Sneed could be ready to be back in a week and join the team as soon as practice begins for the next year. The Tennessee Titans finished the season with the worst record in the league and landed the first overall pick.

The NFL has a Personal Conduct Policy that governs off-field behavior by players, coaches, and other league personnel. The policy gives the league broad authority to investigate incidents involving criminal allegations regardless of whether formal charges are filed or a conviction occurs. Considering how the NFL has treated gun celebrations in past seasons, firearm violence could land Sneed in trouble.

What the allegations and the whole ordeal present for the player is yet to be known. However, such an incident could delay his return to the team, especially when his presence is much needed. The Tennessee Titans had huge issues with their secondary last year, with the absence of Sneed and the disappointing performance by Chidobe Awuzie.

Furthermore, Awuzie has also jumped ship in the meantime, leaving more holes in the Titans’ secondary. The new news also could alter the Titans’ plans in the later rounds of the NFL Draft. Only time could tell what is going to happen.
