The Tennessee Titans parted ways with general manager Ran Carthon on Tuesday following a disappointing 3-14 season, which resulted in them securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Carthon, who made history as the franchise’s first Black general manager upon his hiring in 2023, had succeeded Jon Robinson, who was dismissed midway through the previous season. The Titans endured a seven-game losing streak and ultimately missed the playoffs.
The Titans finished 6-11 in Carthon’s debut season. Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk dismissed former coach Mike Vrabel and assigned Carthon to oversee the search for a new coach. Carthon landed on Brian Callahan, who in his debut season (3-14) saw the team’s worst performance since 2015, when they went 3-13. Over the past two seasons, Tennessee holds a combined record of 9-25.
In the statement released by the team, controlling owner Strunk appreciated Carthon while admitted feeling disappointed in the team’s trajectory.
The Tennessee Titans’ decision to remain with Callahan is bamboozling but necessary as explained by the president of football operations Chad Brinker.
Brinker will now spearhead the mission to bring in the new general manager and start the quest to return to glory before their new stadium opens in 2027.
Fans find it difficult to make sense of Titans’ decisions
In normal footballing spheres, usually the coach follows the general manager in an exit. However, the Tennessee Titans are not your usual football franchise. The Titans have split up the general manager while keeping on the head coach – who himself would be sacked by a GM from past precedents.
The decision by Strunk has definitely bamboozled the fans who are struggling to make any sense of what the Titans are playing at here. They have expressed their frustrations and opinions in mind expletives through X.

This seems like a bad idea! Blow it up!

What GM wants to come take a job where they can’t pick their HC?

Until the new GM comes in and fires him

Smart plan. Keep loading up on first overall picks until the job is appealing to a good coach.

If you fire Ran, just fire Callahan also. Hire a new GM and let him hire his coach. A new GM inheriting a coach on the hot seat isn’t smart, esp having the number 1 upcoming pick.

As the trend of firing coaches started after the conclusion of the season, a few have called out the league for its inadvertent racial bias that they hide.
Ah so mayo gets one shot but this guy gets another chance. Lets talk about it?

In his post game speeches, Callahan expressed his disappointment with the team’s three-win season. Furthermore, he acknowledged the need for improvement and vowed to prevent a repeat of the outcome. He admitted that he must perform better as head coach and emphasized the importance of overall progress across all areas – mainly a new quarterback.
