The Tennessee Titans are sending mixed signals. On Wednesday, the Titans’ president of football operations, Chad Brinker, openly admitted that they have every intention of drafting first and that they would take a generational talent. Now the question arises: Was Brinker talking about Shedeur Sanders?
Cut to Friday, Shedeur Sanders arrived at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for the 100th edition of the East-West Shrine Bowl on January 30, one day after the NFL Championship games. Following a throwing session with the other invited quarterbacks, he took pictures with everyone.
Later, Sanders was seen with the Titans contingent, who were present during the practice. They led him inside a room designated for one-to-one meetings. The thick notebook in the 22-year-old’s hand indicated that the Titans wanted to pick his brain. Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt posted a short clip on X.
.@ShedeurSanders just went into this interview room at the @ShrineBowl headquarters to meet with the @Titans, among others.

Although Brinker has a say in who the Titans will draft, that responsibility falls on the newly appointed general manager, Mike Borgonzi. The former Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM witnessed the change take place from 2-14 to three Super Bowls in five years at Arrowhead firsthand. So, he might have a few things up his sleeve, but he refused to reveal much when asked.
The #Titans’ Chad Brinker’s eye on a “generational talent” at the No. 1 pick is getting too much attention. What I heard is that Brinker’s ideal scenario is to have MORE PICKS.

Tennessee sounds like it’s open for business at 1 and not keen on the quarterbacks at that spot, which… pic.twitter.com/7uKU9Qu104
Borgonzi said it’s too early to discuss. However, the recent Sanders clip may point to the Titans drafting a quarterback first overall in April. Then again, the Titans were content with giving Will Levis one more year before deciding on the quarterback slot, but that was before Borgonzi arrived at the music city. His influence may have switched the brass’s view on whom to draft.
Shedeur Sanders is the odds-on favorite to be a top-three pick
Ever since the college football season, the first overall pick switched hands a few times, but Sanders’ teammate and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter has been the favorite to be taken first overall for a while.
The recent mock draft from Nflmockdatabase revealed that Hunter was displaced by Miami quarterback Cam Ward. Sanders is second, and Hunter is third.
This doesn’t favor the Titans on paper, but nothing is set in stone. The evaluation process will continue until the draft day arrives. All eyes will be on the Shrine Bowl, then on the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine before the draft commences on April 24. One thing is for sure: there are bound to be surprises along the way, but whatever happens, the Titans will acquire a good talent to build around.
