Apart from Aaron Rodgers, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is yet another whose future is still unknown amid growing concerns. Similarly, the Pittsburgh Steelers and TJ Watt are also going through some rough patches, and trade rumors have increased in the past few days.

Chris Canty, an analyst at ESPN Radio’s Unsportsmanlike, has suggested a solution to end both of their worries. Canty noted that the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are looking for a quarterback, can trade TJ Watt to the Niners. However, the idea is not that popular and equally agreed upon as a good trade. Damien Woody admitted that he doesn’t find it a better deal and acknowledged his reservations about the same.

Cantuy noted that the San Francisco 49ers are bad at defense as well. In the offseason, they lost Dre Greenlaw, Leonard Floyd, Javon Hargrave, Maliek Collins, Charvarius Ward, Isaac Yiadom, and Talanoa Hufanga. They haven’t made any notable moves either, and badly need some strong presence in the defense.

Using T.J. Watt as a way to be able to pry Brock Purdy from San Francisco. The 49ers gutted at defense, being able to add some help for Fred Warner and Nick Bosa. T.J. Watt in that group. [Robert] Saleh now back there as the defensive coordinator.

Chris Canty said

The 30-year-old from Wisconsin is one of the consistent defensive players in recent years. TJ Watt, who joined the Steelers in 2017, set the single-season record for most sacks in 2021. He also became the second fastest player to record 100 sacks behind Reggie White. Furthermore, the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year finished as a finalist for DPOY five times.

As for the empty quarterback seat the trade would mean for the 49ers, Chris Canty noted that they hold the eleventh pick in the NFL Draft. However, he also slightly leaned towards the aspect where the Steelers might ask for the pick as well.

[The 49ers] got the 11th overall pick, so they can presumably draft a quarterback if they don’t have to give up that pick in the trade. I don’t know how the 49ers say no to that,” Chris Canty went on to add.

Damien Woody thinks Brock Purdy is a championship-winning guy.

Damien Woody, a former colleague of Chris Canty, has his reservations about the Brock Purdy trade to the AFC North team. It would be interesting to see Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Brock Purdy in the same division, but nah, Woody doesn’t find it so.

In an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Damien Woody said that the deal would be disrespectful to Purdy. He admitted that Purdy is not amongst the tier one QBs, referring to Burrow, Jackson, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes, but noted that he’s right there with them.

Furthermore, Woody made a strikingly bold call, noting that Purdy is a guy who can take a team to the championship.

It’s disrespectful to Brock Purdy, to be honest with you… He’s a guy you can win a championship with in this league. There’s no question about it. Do those guys grow on trees? Do those types of quarterbacks grow on trees? They do not. Why in the world would the San Francisco 49ers, who by the way have been unloading guys on their roster because they know they have to pay the quarterback, why would you make that trade? It makes absolutely no sense.

Damien Woody noted

As the situation worsens with time, the San Francisco 49ers need to get their things together if they are going to emulate the success that they had two years ago. Brock Purdy has shown what he’s capable of doing despite the challenges of last year. He remains the only quarterback to defeat Tom Brady in his debut start and lead the team to the playoffs twice in three years. They’ll need to act faster and keep Purdy in the Bay Area.
