AJ Styles is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. While he has competed across the globe throughout his illustrious career, it was TNA that truly helped elevate him to legendary status. ‘The Phenomenal One’ joined the promotion in 2002 when it was started by Jeff Jarrett and remained a cornerstone of the brand until his departure in 2014. However, this Sunday, Styles is set to make a highly anticipated return to the Nashville-based promotion.
Taking to X, TNA’s official social media page announced that Styles is coming back to Total Nonstop Action for one more appearance at this Sunday’s pay-per-view, Slammiversary. The Nashville-based promotion also dropped hype footage featuring an old rusted TNA box with Styles’ iconic ‘Phenomenal One’ jacket to mark the return of ‘Mr. TNA‘ to the company.

From 2002 to 2014, Styles was the undisputed face of Total Nonstop Action. Widely regarded as the backbone of the promotion, he rightfully earned the moniker ‘Mr. TNA.’ During his time with the company, Styles captured multiple championships, including the TNA World Heavyweight Championship twice. He also made history as the inaugural X Division Champion, going on to win the title six times—a record he shares with Jay Lethal.
At 48 years old, AJ Styles is nearing the end of his legendary professional wrestling career. He has frequently acknowledged that retirement is closer than ever, often citing the toll years in the ring have taken on his body. Recently, it was reported that the former WWE Champion extended his contract with the company for one more year, potentially marking his final chapter in the wrestling world.
AJ Styles to face Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam for the Intercontinental Championship?
AJ Styles has recently set his sights on Dominik Mysterio and the Intercontinental Championship on Monday Night Raw. However, ‘Dirty Dom’ has been dodging the future Hall of Famer, claiming he’s medically unfit to compete due to an internal injury. Still, there’s a strong possibility that the two could finally collide at SummerSlam next month.

On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Adam Pearce announced that if Mysterio is medically cleared by next week, he will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Styles at SummerSlam. Moments later, the camera cut to ‘The Phenomenal One’ humorously praying to God for Mysterio’s clearance, eager for the chance to get his hands on ‘Dirty Dom’.

WWE has done an excellent job building this feud around the entertaining dynamic between AJ Styles and Dominik Mysterio. The storyline has strong potential to deliver a fun and engaging match on the first-ever 2-night SummerSlam PLE.
TNA World Champion Trick Williams called out AJ Styles for a match
Trick Williams shocked the wrestling world a few months ago when he captured the TNA World Championship by defeating Joe Hendry. This incredible achievement elevated his status as a WWE star. Recently, Williams stirred excitement once again by calling out some of the greatest TNA stars of all time. He named AJ Styles as his dream opponent should ‘The Phenomenal One’ ever return to the promotion.

Speaking with WhatCulture Wrestling, the TNA World Champion confidently declared that this is his era, and only one of the all-time greats could possibly stop him. Williams suggested that the brands should book a dream match between him and AJ Styles at a major pay-per-view in the future, calling it a potential money-maker.
AJ Styles. That’s the one… If somebody wanna take the Trick N A away, I mean, he’s the guy who I think people would respect the most… Let’s book that. Trick Williams, the greatest TNA World Champion of all time, versus AJ Styles, the greatest TNA World Champion of all time. Let’s book that one.

Backing up his bold claims, Williams went so far as to proclaim himself the greatest TNA World Champion of all time. As of now, there are no major updates on Styles’ role at Slammiversary this weekend—but with the recent buzz, there’s a strong possibility he could be involved in a segment with Trick Williams at the event.
