‘To win, I have to improve this aspect,’ claims Rafael Nadal ahead of semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev in Paris Masters
The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal has already added a 20th Grand Slam title to his name this year. As the top seed, the Spaniard is seeking his maiden Paris Masters crown in 2020. He is scheduled to contend against Alexander Zverev in the semi-final later today.
Rafa is just one title away from Novak Djokovic’s record of 36 ATP Masters 1000 titles. He defeated fellow countryman Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6, 7-5, 6–1 to get himself in a winning position in Paris yet again.
Nadal’s reflects on his current form
In his post-match press conference, Rafa stated that he needed to improve his return and serve rate. Nadal has lost six breaks of his serve in Paris as of now. He understands that the further along he goes in this tournament, the less room for errors he’ll have. Especially now that only the seeded players remain in the battle field, Rafa will need to conquer his demons, starting today.
He was quick to point out that, “My serve has been working well in Paris. But I have to return better to have more options.”
Moreover, he added that he couldn’t do anything on the return for a set and a half against Pablo. This allowed his adversary to dominate the groundstrokes right after the initial shots hit the racquet.
Rafa also did not shy away from complimenting Busta for the tough fight in the quarter-final. He said that, “Pablo played at a high level” and left him with “no chances.” Alas, the results would disagree, as Rafa won the battle against Busta.
The 34-year-old will hopefully be able to dig deep and channel his best tennis against Zverev in the semi-final today.
