The New York Jets have been disappointing 5 weeks into the 2024 NFL season. Aaron Rodgers has been a reason for the team’s struggles so far as the offense has yet to get into rhythm despite having immense potential. Through five games, Rodgers has 1,093 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. This week, the quarterback will have a new offensive coordinator on the sidelines.

Todd Downing finds himself in the position of Nathaniel Hackett after interim HC Jeff Ulbrich wasted no time in replacing the latter. Downing made his first media appearance on Friday after going through what he considered as a “unique week.” He expressed his faith in quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his ability to bounce back despite having had a slow start so far this season.

The primary play-caller for the Jets on Monday night has been a part of the team’s offensive meetings led by Nathaniel Hackett. Although the offense will witness changes this week, Downing is certain that Aaron Rodgers will not have any issues playing like the experienced veteran that he is.

Yeah, in a two-decade career he has very few blips on the radar, and I know that Aaron himself has said that the last couple of weeks aren’t up to his standard, but that does not necessarily sound an alarm.

Todd Downing said to the reporters

The quarterback has not shied away from admitting that the team’s preparation has not been ideal. The Jets’ organization has had internal rumblings in the past few weeks but now, there is a sense of stability.

Todd Downing rains praises on ‘master of preparation’ Aaron Rodgers

The offensive coordinator went on to add that the four-time NFL MVP is a master of preparation. Todd Downing expects Aaron Rodgers to come in and perform at an elite level this week.

He knows how to prepare. He knows how to diagnose defenses. He knows how to run the show on offense, and that’s what we’re anticipating this week.

The Monday night matchup against the Buffalo Bills marks a fresh start for the New York Jets. The team no longer needs to worry about internal disagreements in coaching and is in a position to focus solely on football from this week onwards. The Jets sit comfortably in the second spot in the AFC East and go up against the first-ranked Bills.

This win can put them atop the AFC East and it will serve as a huge morale booster for the organization as the team heads into the second half of the season. Todd Downing has achieved success during his tenure as the offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans in 2021 and 2022. Based on his playcalling abilities there, Jeff Ulbrich had no doubts about promoting him almost immediately.
