Tokyo Olympics 2020: Deepika Kumari crashes out in quarterfinals to top seed An San

Deepika Kumari

Deepika Kumari‘s Tokyo Olympics journey has come to an end in the quarterfinals. Deepika lost to South Korea’s An San in straight games to crash out of the Olympics. The top seed was just too good for the Indian who succumbed to the pressure of the big stage, once again.

The South Korean had the perfect start to the match with a perfect 30 in the very first game. The tremendous first set was enough to rattle Deepika who shot four sevens as she lost in straight sets. While Deepika created history by becoming the first Indian archer to reach the quarterfinals, she failed to bring her A-game.

Yet another dissapointing Olympics for Deepika Kumari

While the saying goes, the third time is the charm, it was clearly not Deepika Kumari. In her third Olympic appearance, the World number 1’s quest for India’s maiden archery medal at the Summer Games continues. Despite being so experienced, Deepika failed to calm her nerves as she succumbed to the big-game pressure.

An San on the other hand was calm as they come and hit the mark at will. The 20-year-old is a favorite to clinch the gold medal and she proved that she is gearing up to stand up to those expectations.
