Tokyo Olympics 2020: Deepika Kumari cruises through to Round of 16

Deepika Kumari has made it to the Round of 16 at the Tokyo Olympics. The World number 1 had a shaky start with her first arrow being a seven as she lost the first game but she came roaring back bagging the second and third sets. Deepika was solid throughout the game as she outplayed American’s Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez.

Jennifer fought back in the penultimate set but Deepika held her nerves to take the game 6-4. The American’s inconsistency cost her the game. It was a close final set for the World no.1 and the ninth seed, but it was the latter who emerged on top. Deepika finished with scores of 25, 28, 27, 24 and 26 as she cruised into the Round of 16.

Deepika is looking much better than her performance in the ranking round. Her performance has given the dwindling hope of a medal in archery a significant boost.
