PV Sindhu has made it to the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu emerged victorious in an enthralling encounter with Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi. The Indian played with composure to take the first set comfortably before the fourth seed launched a counterattack in the second set. at the end, it the Indian who won the quarterfinals in straight sets.

Yamaguchi got off with all cylinders firing as she rushed to a four point lead but Sindhu is no starnger to big games. She held her nerves and played with composure to not only take the lead but finish off the set 21-13. The second set saw the shuttles engage in a fierce battle.

Yamaguchi mounted a tremendous comeback to reach the game point ahead of Sindhu in the second set. The Japanese was trailing to 12-6 midway before she came roaring back to rush to two game points. Having slacked off earlier, Sindhu ade it up with some scintillating attacking play forcing an error out the exhausted Japanese.

Sindhu showcased tremendous netplay matching the Japanese shot by shot . The game was filled with stunning rallies between the two world class players. It took everything from Sindhu to win the quarterfinal while Yamaguchi faltered despite her spirited play. In a surreal second game, it all came down to mental strenth and stamina at the end where Sindhu excelled as she held her nerves to overturn two gamepoints.
