Tokyo Olympics India’s schedule for 30th July: Deepika Kumari, PV Sindhu, Manu Bhaker in action

30th July, i.e. the seventh day of the Tokyo Olympics promises to be an action packed day for the Indian contingent as top names including Deepika Kumari, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker will take the stage. Deepika and Manu will be competing in medal rounds and if all goes well, they can win medals for the country on July 30.
The day will also mark the end of the group stages of the field hockey event for men, with both Indian Men’s and Women’s team playing their last and second last group stage matches respectively. The day will also mark the commencement of the Athletics event. Take a look at the Indian athletes who will compete on July 30.

Deepika Kumari – Archery

World No.1 Deepika Kumari won her first two rounds against Karma of Bhutan and Jennifer Fernandez on July 28 and will take the field to play her Round of 16 match against in form Russian Ksenia Perova. Her match is the first of the day and will begin from 9:30 am local time (6 am IST).
All the matches including the medal matches will be played on July 30, hence if Deepika will proceed deeper in the day if she manages to win.

PV Sindhu- Badminton

All Indian hopes will be riding on PV Sindhu’s shoulders as she is set to take on Japanese Ace Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals of women’s singles. Sindhu hasn’t dropped any set in the three matches she has played and is looking very good. She beat Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the Round of 16 on Thursday in straight sets 21-15,21-13.
All of badminton’s action will be on court no.1 and Sindhu is set to take on Yamaguchi in the evening session. She will play the second match of the session, after the Mixed Doubles Gold Medal Match.

The match is expected to start by 4:45 pm local time (1:15 pm IST).
Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat

Indian teenage sensation Manu Bhaker will be seen in action at the Tokyo Olympics for the last time in the Women’s 25m Pistol event alongwith Rahi Sarnobat. Both Manu and Rahi finished their first Qualification Round(Precision) on Thursday and will step at the range for the Rapid fire qualification round on Friday. Manu is currently in 5th position with a score of 292 while Rahi is at the 25th position with a score of 287.

Boxing

Indian female pugilists, Lovlina Borgohain and Simranjit Kaur Baatth will take the ring on Friday. Simranjeet will play her first bout of the Games, up against Sudaporn Seesondee in the Round of 16 of the Women’s Lightweight category while Lovlina will lock horns with Taipei boxer Nien-Chin Chen in the quarterfinal of the Women’s welterweight category. If Lovlina manages to win her bout, she will secure herself an Olympic medal.

Hockey

July 30 will be the last day for Men’s group stage matches while the second last match day for the women. Indian Men’s hockey team has already qualified for the quarterfinals and are coming off a convincing 3-1 win over Argentina. They will play hosts Japan in their last group stage match. As for the Indian women’s team, they haven’t had a good outing this time and are yet to open their account on the points table. They will take on Ireland on the North Pitch.
