Tokyo Olympics Badminton: PV Sindhu scripts history, bags second Olympic medal

Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu toppled China’s He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match to secure a podium finish. Sindhu won in straight games to secure her second Olympic medal. With the win, Sindhu has become only the second Indian to bag multiple Olympic medals.

Sindhu was back to her best following a loss in the semifinal. The Indian started off the game with positivity and was able to pull through despite Bing Jiao’s attempt of mounting a comeback. While the Chinese managed to level the scores at 6-6, Sindhu rushed to a lead with some emphatic net play before taking the first set 21-13.

PV Sindhu becomes the first Indian woman to win multiple Olympic medals

The second half started off in quite a similar fashion to that of the first. A confident PV Sindhu continued to chip away at the Chinese with elegance. Bing Jiao was close at the heels while Sindhu managed to keep her nose ahead. At the end, the Indian proved too good for her as she took the set 21-15.

With the bronze medal, Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. She is also the first Indian shuttler to win multiple Olympic medals.

Sindhu had failed to book her place in a second straight Olympic final as she was defeated in straight sets by second seed Tai Tzu-Ying, who sealed a maiden Olympic final berth. The Indian looked solid early on but the World number 1, Tai mounted a comeback to topple Sindhu in the all-important game.
