China’s Chen Yufei and South Korea’s An Se-young are all set to lock horns in the Women’s Singles Badminton Quarterfinal in the Tokyo Olympics on Friday, July 30. The match will be played at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza BDM Court 1. While Yufei is ranked second in the BWF World Rankings, Se-young is placed six spots below at eighth.

Yufei started her Olympics’ campaign with a dominating show against Egypt’s Doha Hany. The 23-year-old thumped her opponent by 21-5, 21-3 on Sunday. She followed it up with another resounding performance on Wednesday, July 28 against Turkey’s Neshlihan Yiğit.

She won the opening set 21-14 after which she steamrolled her opponent 21-9 in the second set. In her career, Yufei has faced losses in 76 out of 233 matches and she’ll be looking to carry her form. It’s her maiden appearance in the Olympics and she’ll be looking to make a mark in the next game.

Se-young, on the other hand, has had a decent campaign as well until now in the Tokyo Olympics. In her first Group C match against Spain’s Clara Azurmendi, the 19-year-old won by 21-13, 21-8. She raised her game in the Group C match against Nigeria’s Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan.

Se-young won the first set 21-3 and then finished the game with a 21-6 second set victory. In her Round of 16 match against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan, the youngster had to fight for her victory. The Thai shuttler fought hard, but the South Korean came out trumps by 21-15, 21-15.

Yufei and Se-young have faced each other three times from July 2019. In all the instances, Yufei got over the line. In their last meeting, Yufei beat Se-young by 14-21, 21-14, 21-15.
