Tokyo Olympics: “Games will certainly go ahead however coronavirus evolves,” says Tokyo 2020 President

There has been huge speculation about whether or not the Tokyo Olympic Games which were postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic would take place. Despite the fact that the virus is still at large and hasn’t subsided, organizers of the game, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have remained certain that the Games will take place according to schedule in July.
The postponement has already causes huge financial loss to the organizers with the Game already having become the most expensive Summer Olympic Games in history without even beginning. Reports have stated that the cost is at USD 2.8 billion at present and they expect it to rise to USD 15.8 billion by the time the Games are over.
Emergency in Tokyo set to continue

The President of Tokyo 2020 spoke to reporters today following a meeting with organizers and members of Japan’s ruling party in Tokyo and reassured them that the Games will go ahead. He said, “We’ll certainly go ahead however the coronavirus (pandemic) evolves. We must go beyond discussion about whether we will hold it or not. It’s about how we will do it. Let’s think about a new kind of Olympics on this occasion.”
Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is expected to announce an extension of the state of emergency due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. Tokyo recorded its lowest daily figure in a month’s time seeing a drop from 633 yesterday to 393 today. However, the total cases in January was nearly double the cases in December.
