For the upcoming encounter, Miguel Delas-captained Spain are the underdogs since they are placed ninth in the FIH rankings even as India are placed fourth. In the points table, Spain are positioned one spot below India at fifth.

Manpreet Singh and Co. started their campaign on a resounding note, beating New Zealand in the opening game. However, Sunday’s match against Australia turned out to be a nightmare for them. India lost the game by a humongous margin of 1-7 and are currently placed fourth in Pool A.

The Aussies pushed India on the back foot in the first two quarters itself, making the scoreline 4-0. From there on, it was one-way traffic in Australia’s favour, though Dilpreet Singh scored a consolation goal in the third quarter.

Spain, on the other hand, started in a spirited manner, thanks to a 1-1 draw against Argentina on Saturday, July 24. However, they slumped to a 3-4 defeat at the hands of the Kiwis on Sunday. After trailing 1-2 in the first two quarters, Spain scored two goals in the third and took a 3-2 lead.

However, New Zealand came back with two goals in the last to secure victory. Both teams must be low on confidence and will be looking to gain back the momentum with a sterling performance on Tuesday.
