Japan vs Mexico: The two sides are set to face each other in the Baseball Opening Round Group A match on Saturday, July 31. As per the WBSC rankings, Japan are the top-ranked team. Mexico are placed four spots below them at fifth.

Japan are the firm contenders to win the gold medal and they started their campaign like the favorites themselves. On Wednesday, July 28, they beat the Dominican Republic by a margin of 4-3. The Dominicans got them on the mat, entering the ninth inning with a crucial 3-1 lead.
However, Japan came back like champions and scored three points in the ninth inning. Hayato Sakamoto hit a bases-loaded single to take his team over the finishing line. After how they performed in the first game, the expectations of gold from Japan would have gone up.
Mexico, on the other hand, didn’t make the best of starts in the Tokyo Olympics. In their opening match, Dominican Republic beat them by 1-0. They are placed at the bottom of the points table. Dominicans’ Charlie Valerio scored to give his team the much-needed lead.
The Dominicans will now be looking up to the match between Japan and Mexico to know their fate in the tournament. Japan are the table-toppers in Group A and should qualify for the next round barring any miraculous circumstance. An exciting game seems to be in store on Saturday.
