India will be sending its largest-ever contingent of 127 athletes to the Tokyo Olympics, which will be its largest ever. Athletes will represent India across 18 sports, with several medal hopefuls. Wrestling will be sending its largest-ever contingent along with shooting and both are expected to win medals for India.

There have been several predictions about the medal hauls of the Indian team, including the analytical company Gracenote, which has accurately predicted several medal hauls over the year. Gracenote predicts that India will win 17 medals especially across shooting and wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics.

The global news agency Associated Press has predicted that India will win its biggest ever medal haul with 11 total medals, including 4 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.

The AP Experts predict a rich medal haul for India; better than any of its previous Olympics appearances. It predicts that India will win 4 gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, and all of these are expected to come from shooting. Along with these 4 golds, India is predicted to win 3 silver and 4 bronze.

Experts predict that India will win 2 medals in archery, 1 medal in boxing, 1 medal in weightlifting, and 4 bronze medals in wrestling. It will regardless be India’s best performance at the Olympics with several athletes like Amit Panghal, Vinesh Phogat, and Deepika Kumari will be going to the Tokyo Olympics ranked no. 1 in the world. Athletes like Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Mary Kom, and the Indian Hockey teams are also in the running to win a medal for India.

India’s sporting contingent has already reached Japan, and the Tokyo Olympics are all set to begin on 23rd July, under severe restrictions for the health and safety of all Olympic participants during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
