A strong medal contender, USA’s team comprising of Alexandra Klineman and April Elizabeth Ross will go up against Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink representing Netherlands in a preliminary Pool B women’s beach volleyball match at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
USA vs Netherlands Match Preview
Winning both of their previous matches, USA comfortably sits at the top of Pool B and has already confirmed its place in the Round of 16. They are yet to lose a set, winning comfortably against China 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) and as well as against Spain 2-0 (21-13, 21-16). They are the 2019 World Championship silver medalist, while Elizabeth Ross is a two time Olympic medalist as well, which she won with different partners. Therefore, there is no doubt that it’s a really formidable team and surely medal contender.
On the other hand, Netherlands with two losses in as many matches, is finding itself languishing at the bottom of the table and is staring an early exit. In both of its previous contests, the Dutch women had a chance to secure the victory, but on both occasions they wasted the opportunity of being one set up. Their losses have been hard to digest, both against Spain 1-2 (21-19, 18-21, 14-16), and particularly more against China 1-2 (21-19, 29-31, 13-15). They could have easily cruised to the next round, but their inability to close out the games have cost them dearly and even a win against USA now might not be enough to continue their campaign in Tokyo.

Given the way Netherlands has played in its previous two encounters, it is a possibility that they might eke out a set against USA. A 2-1 victory for USA is on the cards, which means that Netherlands’ journey at the Tokyo Games will officially end in the preliminary stage itself.
