Japan is the World No.1 team and they haven’t done their reputation any harm in the Tokyo Olympics. In their opening Group A match against the Dominican Republic, they had a bit of a stutter. However, they brought all their experience to the fore and won the match 4-3.

The team upped their game and thrashed Mexico 7-4 to end as the table-toppers in their group. Tetsuto Yamada churned out a homer and drove in four runs to secure victory for Japan. The Asian team now needs two victories to win the coveted Olympic gold medal.

Like Japan, the USA also finished at the top of the points table in Group B. They started the event on a resounding note, crushing Olympic debutant Israel 8-1 in a one-sided encounter on Thursday. After the morale-boosting win, the USA defeated South Korea 4-2 as well on Saturday.

In that game, Triston Casas produced two home runs, giving the USA a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Thereafter, Nick Allen’s brilliance made it 4-1 in the fifth inning. In the ninth inning, David Robertson held his nerve to help his team beat their Asian opponent without much trouble.
